June 13, 2008 --Tim Russert was a close friend to The Richmond Forum and his loss will be felt deeply by our subscribers.

Russert appeared at The Richmond Forum three times in recent years, most recently in February 2005 when he presented his "View From Washington." He also served as a moderator for Richmond Forum programs in 1999 and 2000.

Forum audiences relished the opportunity to share in his intellect, humor, and the probing questioning style that made him so famous.

The Richmond Forum family extends its deepest sympathies to Tim's family and friends.

As a long ago Irish immigrant to Canada, and a political junkie to boot, Tim Russert became a friend I never met. And now he's gone. Taken far too soon. Ah but I'll be alright. Aren't I the better man for having had a friend like Tim, even though I never met him. It would have been impossible for me, a foreigner, to really comprehend American politics without the aid of Tim Russert. Not that my comprehension shall ever be that great but: Thanks Tim. Sleep well my friend. You are truly loved.
