During his ten years as Prime Minister, Tony Blair transformed Britain’s public services, acted as a strong advocate of a values-based, activist and multilateralist foreign policy, and is credited for his contribution towards assisting the Northern Ireland Peace Process. He is currently serving as the Middle East Quartet Representative, which is made up of the United Nations, European Union, United States and Russia. Our most requested speaker for next year, we look forward to welcoming Mr. Blair to Richmond. |

In a program designed to explore the intricate interplay between faith and politics, we are joined by two journalists who are best-selling authors, Islam expert Reza Aslan, author of No god but God: the Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, and Jon Meacham, Editor of Newsweek and author of American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation. Aslan, Middle East Commentator for NPR's Marketplace and Muslim Affairs Analyst for CBS News, and Meacham, who has written cover stories on politics, religion, guns in America and race and was named "one of the most influential editors in the news magazine business" by The New York Times, will examine the impact of faith on culture, government, and public policy and will discuss what we can learn from exploring these dynamic, evolving relationships.

Smokey Robinson
An Evening with a Motown Legend

Legendary recording artist, singer and songwriter Smokey Robinson's numerous accomplishments include 37 Top 40 Motown Hits and the Grammy Living Legend Award. His musical vision and talent as a performer, songwriter and producer were integral to the development of the Motown sound. He was a Vice-President of Motown from the early days, and was involved in every facet of the company's operations, helping to develop the music and reputation of his own group, the Miracles, as well as artists such as Mary Wells, The Temptations and Marvin Gaye. Daphne Maxwell Reid, known for her role as Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and as co-founder of New Millennium Studios, will guide the discussion, covering Smokey's life and his influence on pivotal years in music history.

Football season may seem like a distant memory in March, but FOX NFL Sunday co-hosts Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long will still have commentary to share with us. In addition to legendary football careers, both men have had roles in major feature films, with Bradshaw having the distinction of being the only NFL player with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Bradshaw, the Pittsburgh Steelers former quarterback, and Long, a former defensive end for the Los Angeles Raiders, will join us to share personal stories from their football and film careers, and to give us their opinions on current issues facing the game, and the business, of football. |

In today’s world, where the simple question “What’s for dinner?” has become entangled in issues of food safety, environmental impact and international trade agreements, we welcome best-selling author Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto), and critically acclaimed author and scientist Marion Nestle, Ph.D., MPH (What to Eat?, Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health) as they guide us through the various methods of food production in the United States, and up and down the aisles of our supermarkets. Using their expertise and research, they will help us learn how to make the best food choices to sustain our bodies, our environment and our culture.
